points. In the German communique of the 17th they claimed to have recaptured Langemarck but this was untrue. The 29th Division on the left & the 51st Division on the right had captured their objectives also. Owing to the losses incurred the 38th Division was ordered to relieve the 20th. August 18th-19thDivision in the line on nights of 17-18th & 18th-19th. On the morning of the 19th the relief was complete & the Division was concentrated in the PROVEN area. Our losses between the 12th & 16th had been about 2000. One of the features of this attack was the large number of concrete dugouts which had to be captured.
