quarters were in a camp near Welsh Farm at ELVERDINGHE. It was a new camp & we had to build it. All Nissen huts & camouflaged. 16 September 1917 The Brigades went into the trenches preparatory to an attack on Eagle Trench & the ground beyond. The 60th & 59th Brigades being the assaulting brigades with the 61st in Divisional Reserve. The 51st Division were attacking on our right & the Guards were holding the ground on our left; the trenches we had to capture were very strong especially in the centre which had in the previous operations held up the 38th Division & ourselves; on the left our objective was GOED-TER-VESTAM farm on the Staden Railway & on the right LOUIS Farm and a line east of it.
