to attack the Hindenburg Line with the assistance of tanks. Three Cavalry divisions were to cooperate & when the infantry had made good passages over the Canal at Marcoing & Masnieres & the high ground round, they were to break through, take Cambrai & cut the communications between Douai & Valenciennes on the River Sensee. The Corps now had the 6th, 12th, 20th & 29th Divisions. Our division & the 29th had had heavy fighting in Flanders & in our case had had no time for training since the fighting. The 4th Corps on our left (General Woollcombe ) was co-operating. The objectives of the 3rd Corps were the La Vacquerie position & the German line running east & west of it.
