18 November 1917 The 12th Division took over the southern portion of our line in front of Gonnelieu so by the morning of the 19th all three divisions were in their battle positions with the 20th Division in the centre. The weather all through the concentration had been in our favour. Most days were misty & hostile aeroplanes & balloons could see very little of what was going on. In all the villages close behind the line canvas shelters had been erected amongst the ruins & camouflaged. Troops were concealed in these & not allowed to move out of them during the day. Strict orders were issued regarding fires & lights.
