The left party found no difficulty in getting through the German wire and there was no opposition in the trench. The Royal Engineers Sergeant and a tunnelling officer searched for mine shafts but could not find any so they blew up a dug out with the explosive they had taken with them. This party killed & wounded many Germans & brought back 8 prisoners having 1 killed & seven wounded of their own party. Many rifles, helmets and other loot were brought back & the raid was a success & we got identifications. The Germans then shelled our trenches very heavily until about 2am & we had a few casualties.
