22nd near Les Rues des Vertes & selected the outpost line & the main position. The Corps issued orders that the high ground about the Cemetery was to be held; it was considered that if the enemy gained possession of this high ground it would enable them to enfilade the defences of the bridgehead east of Manieres. In addition it [would – crossed out] gave us some slight view towards the Rue des Vignes but only the tops of houses could be seen from here. I quite agreed with the view of the Corps & I also considered that if the Cemetery were held by the enemy all ground between that point & the Bonavis - Masnieres Road would be under close observation. As it was, he had observation over this ground from the higher ground north of the canal. An advance was made by the 59th Brigade toward Les Rues des Vignes, but it was heavily enfiladed
