The 56th Division is to form a protective flank north of Combles whilst the other three divisions, that is the Guards, 5th and 6th attack Morval Les Boeufs. This was successful. 26 September 1916 Relieved the 5th Division. 60th & 61st Brigades hold the line with 59th Brigade in reserve at Arrowhead Copse. 27 September 1916 Ordered to hand over to the French who require this portion of the front for their attack on Sailly-Saillesel. The 73rd and 33rd Regiments of the second French Division take over but owing to the French not being ready the relief not completed until 6.45am on the 28th. Weather very warm but
