There is no doubt that the observers of the heavy artillery are not to be compared with the field artillery observers & their work is distinctly inferior. At dusk parties of engineers & pioneers were sent up to dig & make strong points and by early morning of the 8th the position manned by machine & Lewis guns was quite strong.
