casualties were estimated to be 6th Oxford & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry: Officers - 11 | Other Ranks - 280 12th King's Royal Rifles: Officers - 3 | Other Ranks - 100 12th Rifle Brigade: Officers - 8 | Other Ranks - 70 12th Kings: Officers - 6 | Other Ranks - 130 7th Somersets: Officers - 4 | Other Ranks - 80 7th Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry: Officers - 4 | Other Ranks - 70 7th King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry: Officers - 9 | Other Ranks - 150 Of these about 5 officers were killed. Other Ranks killed not yet known 8 October 1916 Relieved by the 6th Division. The Germans did not shell very heavily but there was steady shelling all day. The regiment opposed to us was 72nd Reserve Infanterie Regiment of the 7th Division. Yesterday & today were very wet and the ground slippery & muddy which made any advance very difficult. The Divisional observing officer who saw our infantry advance yesterday said the men went over quite steadily behind
