10 October 1916 Weather has cleared and it is a perfect day. Drove round to see the brigades, everyone quite cheery and the officers speak very highly of the work the men did on the 7th. It transpires that the failure of the [12th – crossed out] 21st Division [in pencil: under Campbell] to advance on the 7th
