march & attack the Turks besieging Kut-el-Amara. General Townshend could hold on till April 17th. As soon as the Turks were defeated there it would be possible to bring more troops here from Egypt. 22 March 1916 Wet & cold again – quieter day on the front. The daily casualties in the Division average between 30 & 35 daily. The Germans shell our dumps & roads every night & there are a certain number of casualties among horses & mules with the waggons bringing up stores & supplies. I hear that the General Commanding the French Division on our left was wounded today. 23 March 1916 Snowing during the night.
