not counter attack apparently but they bombarded during the whole of last night. The mound has been in possession of the Germans since February last year, when it was lost by the 27th Division. It is a great gain as it overlooked nearly the whole of our trenches & was an excellent observing post. 28 March 1916 Lunched with General Fielding commanding the Guards Division. Visited the Elverdinghe defences in the afternoon – they have been very heavily shelled lately & the men have no safe dug outs. Very cold still & high north west wind blowing 29 March 1916 Drove over to see the 3rd Division & congratulate General Haldane on the fine performance at St Eloi. I also visited the 5th & 7th Fusiliers & 12/West Yorkshire. The Brigade
