It is a great gain as it overlooked nearly the whole of our trenches & was an excellent observing post. 28 March 1916 Lunched with General Fielding commanding the Guards Division. Visited the Elverdinghe defences in the afternoon – they have been very heavily shelled lately & the men have no safe dug outs. Very cold still & high north west wind blowing 29 March 1916 Drove over to see the 3rd Division & congratulate General Haldane on the fine performance at St Eloi.
