for about three hours – they succeeded in knocking over the water tower and then ceased – they must have seen some officers observing from there yesterday – masses of masonry came town on top of our cellar, & covered the room above with debris - a large water tank sprung a leak, & flooded my bed room in the cellar – no one damaged. An artillery officer who was here said he thought they were putting in 11 inch shells. Every one is asking when we are going to get a supply of ammunition we take the Germans on with this great disadvantage against us, & are unable to reply except with a few rounds. Daily our men are exposed to heavy shell fire in the trenches, & we cannot
