and to reply as we should wish when the enemy bombard our trenches 24 April 1915 The flight north & north east of Ypres still continues, and the Germans are advancing on a broad front – the French Division which was attacked consisted mostly of Zouaves Turcos and a "disciplinary regiment" - apparently it was completely routed, & they were seen retreating in great disorder through VLAMERTINGHE – the gaseous mixture in the German shells overcame them in the first place, but from what I can hear, the Canadians who were subjected to the same treatment stuck to their trenches and did not give way at first although a good bit affected especially in the eyes.
