occupied this line two months ago, this time we take over from the 18th Brigade of the 6th Division. the 52 Brigade belongs to Kitchener's Army, & this is its first tour of the trenches.
1 August 1915 Relief carried out without incident, was completed by 3am on the 2nd. The Brigade camped at OUDERDOM
2 August 1915 I rode over to see 18th Brigade, & get details of their trenches – the dug outs for Brigade Head Quarters on the canal bank are excellent & very well made. The 9th Brigade left their bivouacs & marched to POTIJSE taking over the trenches of 18th Brigade – reliefs completed by 2.30am.
3 August 1915 Visited the right of the line in the afternoon – trenches held by Royal Scots Fusiliers are good but as usual there is a vast amount of work to be done, especially in the communication trenches. Our heavy artillery bombarded HOOGE
