aero guns unable to hit it. The artillery bombardment this morning must have been excellent. 10 August 1915 The Germans bombarded Hooge very heavily and some of the trenches captured yesterday were vacated. The German Artillery were able to shell the trenches from three sides. We still hold the crater and trenches west of Hooge. Countless counter attacks will probably be made tonight. Visited the trenches with General Cooper 14th Division. I hear in the attack yesterday our losses were 1500 – we took 250 prisoners the Germans must have lost heavily – estimated at 1000. Several German machine guns were captures – as usual they had the trenches lightly held chiefly machine guns. There must have been other machine guns buried.
