Saxons are said to be in the trenches in front of us. 24 November 1915 Visited trenches of 5th Fusiliers with ____ officer Royal Engineers. On our way up a Communication Trench shell burst overhead – wounded the Royal Engineer in the foot, and a fragment of shell passing through my cap cut the red band and strap buckle – not far off my head, but I did not feel it and it was not till I go back that I knew my cap had been punctured. Germans in front of our trenches inclined to be too friendly. 25-27 November 1915 Visit trenches, fairly quiet on our front. There is a 9.2 in our garden. So far it has not attracted any notice from the Germans, but it must do so before long & stray shells may come round our headquarters The 6th Howitzer Battery has only three guns with us & the Officer Commanding says
